Teens share an overwhelming amount of personal information on social media sites that could potentially threaten their safety.

In this infographic based on information conducted by Pew Research Center, anyone can see the overwhelming amount of personal information that teenagers are sharing on their own social media accounts. What many people may not realize is the potential dangers that this excessive amount of personal info shared may cause these teenagers. Over 70% of all the teens surveyed said they have posted their city, town, school, and other information that can make them easily located. This is especially threatening to the 33% of those teenage Facebook users to admit to having Facebook friends whom they have never met in person. A teenager like this may be at risk of ending up in a situation like two thirteen year old girls from Burnsville, Minnesota written about in this article who recently went missing and were found at the home of an older man they had been communicating with over social media. These teens may not understand that you cannot believe everything you read on the web to be true, as well as everyone you interact with to be who they say they. What is surprising about this data is that 24% of teens even admit to posting information that is not real on their social media accounts. The data claims though teens have done this to try to protect their security.
